Meet Your Coach

Barbara Park Leggett

I have one goal: Making the world a happier place.

As a certified professional coach, I focus on helping you create happiness on a personal and professional level.

So, why happiness? And why me?

Happiness, because it is the ultimate goal for each of us.  When you ask yourself, “what do I really want?” followed by “Why?”, it always goes to happiness.

Why me?  Because I’ve been happy and I’ve been unhappy.  Several years ago, it felt like everything I knew was gone.  At 52, I had left my long-term job and passion, my loved ones were ill, and the stable foundation I had known for most of my life was decidedly unstable.

I’m very proud of the 25 years I spent leading Explore & More and creating happiness for thousands of families..  Throughout those years, I prioritized happiness for families, authentic personal and professional relationships and outstanding business practices. After Explore & More, I wanted to bring those priorities to the world in a new way.  I searched, explored options and stepped outside my comfort zone. After years of study, I found my happy place —  I became a Professional Coach.

I want you to be happy. Happy with your career. Happy with your family. Happy with yourself. Often times we neglect how deeply all of those things are connected or  how much work and dedication it takes to achieve it. I have been fortunate enough to have been coached and supported by wise and caring people. These people have helped me achieve my own happiness. They’ve helped me realize the gift I possess to enable others to do the same.

In addition to a Communications Management degree from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University, I’ve received continuing Executive Education through Harvard Business School, Cornell University and Canisius College.  I’ve been certified by the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching, the International Coaching Federation and the Happiness Studies Academy, under the tutelage of noted author and founder of the happiness studies program at Harvard, Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar. I am a facilitator at the World Happiness Summit, and recently received the CoachGiving Award from the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching. As a result, I’m uniquely qualified to guide you through life’s transitions, challenges and your journey to a happier version of yourself.

What is Coaching?

Technically speaking, coaching is an age-old practice human beings have practiced to enable support, growth and accountability between one another. But over the last decade the practice has evolved to leverage technology and time-proven concepts from sports, business, psychology, neuroscience and even spirituality to reliably unlock the triggers within each of us to bring out our best selves. It’s not a hobby and it’s not about wishful thinking.

Coaching is rooted at the intersection of science and art. Proven methodologies  help people set and achieve more rewarding goals for all aspects of their life to become more productive, purposeful and fulfilled.

Coaching for happiness is rooted deeply in science and long-term studies of how to live a richer, more fulfilling life.  My coaching is based on enhancing five key aspects of our lives. The goal is to bring about more happiness – and all that happiness creates – greater success, better health, better relationships and an enriched life.

How does coaching work?

It doesn’t matter who you are or what you’ve accomplished. Everyone wants to become happier. Coaching is for people who recognize the gap between the person they are and the person they are destined to become. Coaching is for people who care enough about becoming the best version of themselves to enlist a partner to help them get there faster and more enjoyably.  Coaching is driven by your goals and priorities – and your hard work.

When people ask me how coaching works, they’re expecting me to explain some kind of process. And while we certainly have processes in place, the real answer is more simple. Coaching *works* when the client is committed to improving themselves.   If you want to improve your career, your relationships and your life. If you really want to be happy, then I would love to show you the way.
